I had a look at Knoppix once. It ran fine, but I can remember sitting in front of it and thinking "ok, but what is this good for?".

And you can imagine what I was thinking of it. 😉

Has so many tools installed by default that it's good for PC repairs & such. I keep a copy for such since I'm not into making a custom repair distro

Yes, that is more or less the reason I was looking at it. But I couldn't figure out how to use it. 😄

But for someone to give to a person that has no knowledge of Linux at all and say "Here, give this a try" isn't a good thing to do. I'd never give Knoppix to an individual that's not tried anything and do that. Instead I'd refer them to something else. Then if they ran across Knoppix I'd tell what it was for and up to them to try out or not.

It comes with many other tools and apps, like browsers and media players.

And lots of potential for security issues. Since, unless they changed things, everything is run as root and there was kernel update issues.

Yeah but that really describes any Live Environment. Far as I know, they're all "root". They wouldn't work, otherwise.

No live distro is fit for "permanent" use.

And running as root might be a security issue for "some" people, but so is using cutlery...

Found a free web-site called Duolingo where you can take german lessons. Give me a couple of years and I just might try Knoppix and see what I think. Been thinking of learning German for a couple of years now.
