Backup HDD's is always a good thing. The issue that can arise is that you generally need to have an equivalent capacity for your backup HDD's as your main ones. With my desktop, that was simply out of the question. When I built it, having 14 TB of backup drive space would have run me something like $800. That's a big no, absolutely not, and oh HELL no!

I never have that much to back up. I'll go through the documents that I want to keep, some pictures and wind up putting them on the USB. Music I don't worry about because after a few times I'll get rid of them anyways and replace with something else.

All of my desktops (3) have 1 TB hard drives 2 of them have more then I distro on I once had five on the experimental only 3 there now, and I am about to take Slax off and put on point Linux on. I have been looking at 2TB external hard drives I would think that would be more the enough just for photos.

I like 3 TB Seagate externals. They're cheaper than the exact same internal drive. At least, that was the case when I built my desktop. Buy an external for $5 less, tear it apart, and then scrap the aluminum case.

Hell, just on my phone, I go through nearly a TB every month. When I get a place (likely tomorrow), that will go WAY up.

Great!

I have a 2 TB in my desktop, bought in connection with some other changes I had done. Sort of "and while you're at it, put another drive in". I think about 200 GB on it is full... 😉

Pansy asses! I've somewhat less than 13 TB now!
