Hopefully something will be able to help out. I always check out extensions to see what's new, or what isn't supported any longer when mine starts screwing up. Just go to the 'start' tab and click on the moon picture with the addon icon. Will give you some choices as to which one you're looking for ie: themes, extensions etc.

It used to be stupid easy, in Linux. Just go to the temp folder that your browser used for streaming then move the video file literally anywhere else and it wouldn't self-delete.

For Firefox, there's an add on that adds a button just below the video. Click that and you have resolution options. Pick one and you're done. Blah, blah Downloader or something. The name eludes me.

No. This one is specific to YouTube. I haven't used it in several months so you might be right that it won't work anymore.

I notice that on some youtube videos there is something called 'Download' at bottom of video. Even then sometimes it don't download some videos. When you click it you'll get some choices as to how you wanted it downloaded to include 'web'. But as I said, I've had a few times that the video wouldn't download but instead would get what looked like some kind of file that normally shows until the video is completely downloaded. But those times that it won't download all I'll have is that file which I wind up deleting. That's the only thing I've found that'll come with youtube.
