One of my niece's came to visit me yesterday and as I was trying to make copys of old family photos I found all the old photos locked and I could not copy them. I went to permissions and change it to read and write, that did not change anything still could not copy photos. does anyone have an idea how to get around this locked program?

I spent 3 hours last night working with this kept getting invlaid options. from terminal help I went to:
where it (if I understand what it said) to use -h instead of -r this got me to path which I entered like this:
/home/pictures/childhood/locked/ and /home/pictures/childhood/
and I get from both no such directory found. I must be doing some thing wrong on the path. I will now go look up paths and try to learn something.

I ge no such file or directory.
so Itried this:

sudo chown -h /home/michael/pictures/childhood/locke/

and I got this
missing olperation after /home/michael/pictures/childhood/locked/

Results I can now move and copy pictures from childhood file, they still show as locked.
now here is the strange thing, using the same DVD of photos that show as locked on both the pc and the hp laptop using Sparky Linux with xfce. The good lady put them on the Toshiba laptop using Sparky linux with the mate DE the photos are not locked. Maybe I am just to old to think about all this new stuff and need to go back to crank telephones.

Yes it is solved I can now copy the photos on that file, what was stoping me was this " : " and the path being to long. When I stoped at pictures it worked .

Don't really know if this goes here are not.
The good lady got a security patch a few days ago she installed it, and it really made a mess of her laptop.
lost the search part of fire fox, could still go to about half of her boodmarked sites could not get to the others. she brought it to me to fix. Really weird what I was seeing look like she was running in vpn mode grub was corupted and more broken parts of the system then I could deal with, I thought easy solution re install. Easier said then done. What I had to do was erase everything on the hard drive before I could reinstall Sparky. On todays news in tech section of BBC news Intel is telling people not to install the Security patch that they put out it might slowdown your computer or worse, well here it was worse.
